Gartner Enterprise Networking & Communications Summit
Gartner Enterprise Networking & Communications Summit
Enterprise communications continues to evolve at a rapid pace and remains a critical source of competitive differentiation - companies that communicate effectively are more successful. However these changes pose significant challenges as planners seek to optimize existing network and telecommunications investments, while also advancing capabilities in critical new areas. The Gartner Enterprise Networking & Communications Summit provides a perspective and vision for how the networks and communications will evolve, the best practices emerging from early adopters, and practical advice on defining an enterprise roadmap.
Communication topics to be covered include unified communications, VoIP, conferencing, presence, IM, video, mobility, messaging, collaboration and contact centers. Networking topics include WAN optimization, MPLS, application acceleration, cloud-based or on-demand solutions, and security. Sessions will also address organizational issues and enterprise planning road-maps.
4 Key Findings and Recommendations
Unified Communications and Collaboration - What are the business advantages of unified communications and collaboration? Which solutions and approaches are most successful? How should my organization evaluate, select and justify these approaches?Recommendation: While most enterprises have already adopted a plan to migrate or have already migrated to IP-PBXs, voice communications continues to change, and new alternatives to IP PBXs are already evolving to replace them. This discontinuity offers enterprises a broad range of solutions, including integration with presence, IM, and video. Successful enterprises must rethink their delivery of voice, video, data, and collaborative applications, and design architectures and organizations capable of supporting them.
Enterprise Network Architecture - How have application networks changed to impact network design? How should I think of designing my network to ensure application performance? Which vendors will lead the evolution to the application fluent network?
Recommendation: Designing a network independent of the transitions in applications environments is a recipe for poor application performance and broken business processes. Enterprises are struggling with the challenge of delivery acceptable application performance at a time where data and servers are being centralized to a small number of data centers. Using new Application Fluent network technologies provides the services required to allow browser-based and SOA application environments work in a global context.
Mobility & the Extended Workforce - How should corporations identify the mobile solutions that will deliver the greatest value to employees and customers? How will network operators, device manufacturers and software companies address enterprises with wireless products and services? What will be the key mobile technology and social trends through 2012?
Recommendation: The wireless world faces several years of disruption. Network operators, handset manufacturers, and operating system vendors are all under attack from new directions with consumer electronics companies, web powerhouses, and technology innovators vying for a slice of a trillion-dollar pie. Corporations must navigate a careful path through this technological and commercial maze.
Best Practices - How have other companies implemented UC to improve productivity and revenue? What best practices can I implement to avoid expensive network implementations (LAN/WAN technologies)? What are the best practices for building a highly functional and secure network?
Recommendation: We will cover best practices on everything from how to keep the network running 24/7, to how to keep costs low and manage change faster, to how to gain control over mobile devices and beef up network security safeguards. We will also cover issues such as how to develop a roadmap for UC and how to create an organizational structure that can deal with the next generation of software-based communications.
These are just some of the recommendations that will be explored further at the Gartner Enterprise Networking & Communications Summit, November 17-19 in Orlando, FL. Further actionable advice and best practices will be discussed onsite.
